CARRICKCROY PORTAL TOMB, COUNTY CAVAN
This much denuded portal tomb, marked on both the OSI & Historic maps as
‘Cromlech’, is situated near the top of a ridge, on the grounds of Glebe House, NE of
Kilnaleck, ‘Cill na Leice’. The small chamber, 1.2m in length and not more than 0.8m
in width, is entered from the north. The entrance was formed by two portal-stones with
a sill, 0.6m in height, between them. The west portal stone is 1.3m in height and the
other, now prostrate, would have been of a similar height. Single stones form the sides
and back of the chamber. All three are about 0.5m lower than the portal-stone.
