DUNGUMMIN OGHAM STONE, COUNTY CAVAN
This ogham stone, also known as ‘Clonkeiffy Standing Stone’, is located in Mount
Prospect, near a cross-roads, the stone can be seen in a the field, a few meters from the
road. It is composed of sandstone and measures 1.6m in height, 0.48m in width, 0.36m
in depth and is tapering upward almost to a point. The name only inscription on the
NW angle reads "OVOMANI" and a hole weathered in the surface of the stone has
damaged the V . It has been dated by Ziegler to 500 - 550 AD. There are four crosses on
the stone. The east face is plain, the south face bears two crosses, the west and north
faces have one cross each and all four crosses are formed of single lines without any
other decoration.
