This stone circle consists of 3 main elements. A circular setting of closely spaced standing
stones of various heights, with several associated outliers,a short arc of standing stones
placed eccentrically within the circle and an oval mound also placed eccentrically within
the circle, bounded by a kerb of upright stones. Partial excavation in 1937 revealed this to
be a low cairn of stones, 0.75m - 0.90m in height. In either end was a rectangular cist
which containing cremated bones and sherds of Neolithic pottery. The site was revisited in
2001 and the field boundary to north has been moved a good 50m south towards the
monument. The land beyond the fence line has been ploughed and according to a local
source, quantities of Neolithic pottery have been found there.
