This incredibly famous cross inscribed ogham stone is set into the west side of a mound of quartz next to the ruins of Kilfountan church which is located on a level plain to the north of Dingle harbour. It is a slender pillar measuring 1.5m in height, 0.25m in width and 0.09m in depth with its decorated face spatula in shape. The ogham inscription is on the NE angle of the stone and it reads: 'EQODD'. The upper face of the south face is decorated with an equal-armed cross with expanded terminals which is enclosed by a circle. This is surrounded by a scrolled crest, joined to the top of the circle by a short stem. Under this is an elaborate design which ends in a pelta motif. Below this is an inscription in half uncial which reads: '(F) INTEN'. The bullaun stone is about 3m in front of the pillar to the west. |
