|MAUMNAHALTORA WEDGE TOMB I
|Marked on the OS maps as Cromlech this is the westernmost tomb of a group of 3
located in this town-land. It consists of a wedge shaped gallery covered at the east by
a single capstone. The gallery is formed by 2 stones each, the western stones being a
little taller and well matched and the tomb is closed by a single stone at the east end.
It measures 3m in length,1.4m at the west end - 1.45m at the back-stone. There is also
another wedge tomb 45m to the east but is too deeply buried in peat to see. Tomb II is
100m NE across the lane-way. The owner of the fields in which the tombs are located
can be difficult so permission is essential and so ask at the house further down the lane.
