BREASTAGH OGHAM STONE
This ogham stone is probably one of the best-known ogham stones in Ireland. It is
believed that this was a pillar-stone of the Bronze Age, and afterwards appropriated for
an ogham epitaph. It measures 3.66m in height, 0.76m in width and 0.60m in depth and
has been dated by Ziegler to 550 - 900 AD. The inscription covers the two angles of the
southern face and its beginning has been severely damaged by spalling. It reads:
'Leiggo - - Sadiulenges Q - - Maq Corrbri - Maq Ammlloratta'.
