About 300m away from Gortavoher West 1 and up the slopes of Slievenamuck mountain, is the other bullaun stone in this townland. It is a double bullaun stone set in a dis-used children's graveyard. The bullauns measure 0.28m in diameter and are quite shallow, holding little water. Although it is of ancient origin, the stone now has a stone memorial beside it and a plaque which reads 'To the memory of the children who were interred here'. The plaque is dated 2009 and it is great to see that the bullaun stone has found a new modern use which will help to preserve its future. |
