The Hanging Stone/Burton Passage Grave |
A polygonal chamber formed by a capstone supported by three orthostats, with no trace of a barrow. Dry-stone walling was noted between the orthostats in 1864 and stones in the adjacent hedge have been seen as further megalithic elements, possibly representing a short passage. Numerous boulders and rock outcrops in the area have suggested a cluster of cromlechs, but this is not substantiated. (source OS 495 card; SM90NE17) J.Wiles 10.05.2002 |
