COOL EAST WEDGE TOMB COUNTY KERRY |
the SW slope of Geokaun Mountain on Valentia Island overlooking Portmagee Channel. The tomb, orientated NE - SW, is very well preserved and consists of a roof stone which slopes south, 3.1m in length, 2.4m in width and 0.40m in depth. It is supported on each side by a single side slab 3m in length and at the back by two butress stones inside of these. This forms the chamber, 2.9m in length, 1.5m in width and 1m in max height. There is no back stone. On the north side of the entrance are two orthostats, 1.6 & 1.5m in height, and on the south side is a small stone 0.90m in height. Between these is some dry stone walling 0.25 m in height. At the front of the tomb is some large boulders and soil which is all that remains of the cairn |
